WOMEN’S HEALTH AND MATERNAL HEALTH SIMPLE AND INEXPENSIVE INTERVENTIONS CAN SAVE THOUSANDS OF LIVES

IMPROVING THE HEALTH OF WOMEN AND MOTHERS WHILE REDUCING THE NUMBER OF AVOIDABLE DEATHS IS A FUNDAMENTAL PRIORITY IN THE MAJORITY OF LOW-INCOME COUNTRIES.

Each year, hundreds of thousands of women do not survive pregnancy or childbirth, and nearly nine million children die before their fifth birthday. Many of these deaths could be prevented with simple, evidence-based interventions of proven effectiveness. We have decided, with our partners, to resolutely attack this problem that is crucial to the future of the poorest countries, by carrying out training, research, and capacity-building activities with healthcare personnel.
